Students From Special Needs School Donate To Animal Shelter

Students from the High Road School of Wallingford held a bake sale and raised funds for the New Haven Animal Shelter.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (Contributed article): Students from the High Road School of Wallingford visited the New Haven Animal Shelter to deliver a check donation and meet some of the animals on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Members of the Student Government Club, the primary, middle and high school students held a bake sale earlier to raise the $126.46. They worked together to decide for themselves the cause they wanted to foster, raised awareness for the bake sale through handmade fliers, and even baked all of the sellable goodies themselves.

The donation will go toward helping the shelter provide the care the rescue animals need. There, they also met with Animal Control Officer Joseph Manganiello, who taught them about the shelter and gave more insight into how they were helping.

High Road School serves primary, middle, and high school aged students with exceptionalities including but not limited to learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, emotional disturbance, traumatic brain injury, communication disorders and physical challenges. Part of the Catapult Learning family, High Road Schools partner with public school districts to provide a structured learning environment for these students, offering them the support they need to be successful academically, as well as socially and behaviorally in and out of the classroom.
