Tax Increase Proposed In Wallingford Mayor’s Budget

Wallingford Mayor William Dickinson Jr. presented his budget, which includes funding for two new police officers, this week.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Faced with a $750,000 decrease in the town’s grand list and a reduction in state aid, Wallingford Mayor William Dickinson Jr. is proposing a 2.8 tax increase in his $165.2 million budget for 2018-19, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reports the average homeowner would pay $143 more in property taxes if Dickinson’s budget is approved. The Board of Education’s spending request was cut by about $840,000 while the request for general government operations was cut by $1.47 million in Dickinson’s proposed budget, according to the Register.

Dickinson’s proposed budget does include funds for two new patrol officers, which would add to the police department’s force for the first time in more than 10 years, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.
