Teachers Can Win Time Off in New Lottery Program

The superintendent will step in and relieve the winning school staffer of duties for an hour.

Wallingford teachers and other school staff members have been swarming to enter the lottery. No, they aren’t aiming for a chance to win millions. They’re just hoping to win an hour off.

As part of a new time-off lottery program, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Salvatore Menzo or one of the assistant superintendents will step in and relieve the lottery winner of their duties for an hour. The first drawing takes place in November.

Menzo said he got the idea for the lottery after hearing teacher complaints that they didn’t have time to get everything done. Not only will it give teachers a needed break, but it also gives the superintendents an opportunity to keep in touch with what’s going on in the classroom.

The ‘substitute’ won’t just step in for an hour. The administrators have also agreed to do any lesson planning required during their brief stints in the classroom.
