Union Seeks Reinstatement for Town Employee Fired Over Fraud Charge

The Wallingford resident was terminated after allegedly committing health insurance fraud in a scheme over a two-year period.

The firing of a town employee accused of filing more than $28,000 in fraudulent health insurance claims may go to arbitration as the union looks to have the man reinstated to his former job, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports James Cei, 49, of 53 Parker Street, was terminated on July 20 from his position in the customer service department of the Electric Division and charged with health insurance fraud after allegedly filing 273 fraudulent claims over a two-year period.

The union notified the town three days after Cei was fired for willful misconduct that it was filing a grievance to have him reinstated, claiming the town violated the contract between the union and the town, according to the Record-Journal.
