UPDATE: Police Identify Woman Struck, Killed by Train in Wallingford

A man was also hospitalized after being struck by the Amtrak train on Tuesday night.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Meriden woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak on Tuesday night and the man with her, also from Meriden, was hospitalized with a severe hand injury, according to Wallingford Police.

Police said Brittaney Tine, 24, died after being struck by the train around 8 p.m. on April 19 and Robert Webb, 29, was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of a severe hand injury after he was also struck by the train.

The Wallingford Police Department Traffic Division assisted Amtrak Police in the investigation of the fatal accident, which occurred on a stretch of Amtrak railway that is located adjacent to Old Colony Road (Rt. 71), near its intersection with Oak Street, in the Tracy section of Wallingford.

The investigation, which is ongoing, revealed that Tine and Webb were walking in a northerly direction along the Amtrak railway when they were struck by a northbound Amtrak Train, according to Wallingford Lt. Anthony DeMaio.

DeMaio said Old Colony Road was closed to vehicular traffic between Main Street and Oak Street to allow Amtrak Police and Wallingford Police to conduct a thorough investigation.

“In light of this tragedy, Amtrak Police and Wallingford Police would like to remind everyone that walking along train tracks is inherently dangerous and illegal,” DeMaio said in a press release. “Please keep in mind that trains can at times travel very fast and do not have the ability to stop quickly to avoid pedestrians, vehicles, or other objects in their path.”
