Vandalized Vehicles Making Things Difficult for Wallingford Seniors

Seniors have missed appointments and events since three Wallingford Senior Center vans were put out of commission by thieves.

After three Wallingford Senior Center vans were recently damaged, some seniors have missed appointments and events and now the Public Works Department is working on temporarily fixing at least one of the vehicles to ensure that seniors can make it to the center’s big Thanksgiving luncheon on Friday, according to WFSB 3.

Wallingford Senior Center Executive Director Bill Viola told WFSB that when he went to work on Monday he found three vans damaged by thieves and the catalytic converter stolen from each vehicle.

Viola said the parts for the vans are expected to be in on Monday, but the price tag to replace the catalytic converters is about $5,000 and the center is still trying to figure out how they will foot the bill, according to WFSB.

“We’re not a rich corporation where it’s a drop in the bucket,” Viola told WFSB. “To us, it’s hurtful.”
