Volleyball Camp Wraps Up Parks and Rec Summer Sports
A total of 45 players, all girls, signed up for this program.
Most of Wallingford Parks and Recreation camps have ended, but volleyball players got one more chance to improve their game this week.
Coach Dave Jockle, who has over 20 years of coaching experience, and assistant coach Kate Meehan run two camps, experienced players in the morning and younger athletes in the afternoon, at the Parks and Rec building.
“The players that come out of this program funnel into the high schools,” said Jockle. “This is a last little push.”

Try outs for most high school sports are this Saturday. The players come from Wallingford, but also Meriden, Southington, and Hamden.
“Word of mouth gets out,” Jockle said.

Camp drills focus on how to handle the volleyball and technical skills, like ball control and arm swing mechanics.
Sheehan High School sophomore Emily Gersz was on the school team last year and came to camp to improve her skills.
“I understand the game more,” Gersz said. “I like setting [the ball].”
This is the second time at volleyball camp for Kasey Jimenez, a freshman at Maloney High School in Meriden. She’s trying out for the school team this year.
“I came here before and I really liked it so I came again,” said Jimenez.
Volleyball camp runs through Thursday, Aug. 23.
