Wallingford 18-Year-Old Accused of Stealing Mail from 77 Homes, Forging Checks in Town

The teen's mother found multiple bags of mail in his room and brought them to police.

A Wallingford 18-year-old is accused of stealing mail from 77 homes on 19 different streets in town, then forging and cashing checks worth several thousands of dollars from December 2014 into January, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports that Patrick Tardif, 18, of 15 Cooper Avenue, is due in court Wednesday to face charges of 11 counts of identity theft, 12 counts of forgery and 10 counts of criminal impersonation.

Tardif’s mother discovered multiple bags of mail in his room and brought them to the police department and police were able to connect a checkbook to an investigation that was started after two Wallingford residents filed a complaint that someone had cashed $2,450 worth of checks from a TD Bank account, according to the Record-Journal.

Police later received more complaints about fraudulent activity from other residents after Tardif’s mother had removed the mail from his room, which led police to believe that he was still in possession of stolen mail and a warrant to search the home was approved and executed.
