Wallingford Cancels School for a Fifth Day; April Break Cut Down To Make Up For Snow Days

Because so many snow days have been used up, the district is now taking days away from a pre-scheduled April vacation to make up for the lost time.

School has been cancelled in Wallingford for Thursday, Feb. 13, less than a week after the Blizzard of 2013 dumped over two feet of snow on town.

Here's the tweet from Superintendent Salvatore Menzo's Twitter account confirming the news:

Wallingford Public School - closed Thursday, February 14 - All students and teachers should not report. #wpschools

This means there is no more school for the rest of the week, as Friday was already a pre-scheduled day off for Wallingford students, who expecting to enjoy a long weekend from Feb. 15-18 due to the President's Day holiday.

Students have not been in school all week due to the fact that multiple roads, while reportedly plowed for at least one-lane travel, are still impassable for buses. Menzo confirmed with Patch that this was still the case as of Wednesday.

This also means that the district will start pulling days from a pre-set vacation from April 15-19. Here's the break down of the details:

  • There will be school on April 18-19 for the entire district, although Sheehan High School students will report to class on April 17. This is because Sheehan has roof problems during Hurricane Sandy, and the district needed extra days at the end of the year to commence roof repair.
  • April Break will now be from April 15-16 for Sheehan students and April 15-17 for the rest of the district.
  • Graduation is now June 28.
