Wallingford CMT, CAPT Scores Above State Averages
The district, in general, did well on the state standardized tests.
Wallingford schools exceeded the state averages in both CMT and CAPT scores, recently released state data on the two standardized tests show.
In addition, the district generally improved on both the CAPT and CMTs compared to the 2011 results, though grade six CMT scores across the board decreased in 2012 over the previous year's scores. In math, the percentage of students performing at or above goal on the CMT dropped from 76.2 in 2011 to 72.4 in 2012. In reading, the percentage of students peforming at or above goal dropped from 80.9 to 77.6, while in writing it dropped from 63.3 in 2011 to 61.9 last year.
On the CAPT, which is given to students in grade 10, the percentage of students performing at or above goal in science increased from 50.1 in 2011 to 50.4 in 2012. The percentage of those performing at or above proficiency in science increased from 87.0 to 89.7. In reading, the percentage of students performing at or above goal rose from 52.6 in 2011 to 60.9 in 2012 and the percentage of those performing at or above goal in writing saw a significant increase as well, jumping from 61.3 last year to 71.8 in 2012.

In releasing the CMT and CAPT test scores for individual districts this year, the state Department of Education said that CMT scores — given to students in grades 3 through 8 — improved incrementally while CAPT performance — administered to 10th-graders and required for graduation — was mixed.
"While student performance increased in all content areas when compared to the CAPT baseline year of 2007, it decreased in some areas when compared to last year," department officials said in a news release. "As compared to 2011, performance increased slightly in writing, remained relatively constant in science and reading, and decreased in mathematics."
