Wallingford To Consider Outsourcing Food Services for Schools: Report

The Board of Education is requesting proposals from outside firms to handle the district's food service duties.

Facing a large deficit in the school district’s food services department, the Wallingford Board of Education is considering outsourcing the cafeteria account, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports the Board of Education unanimously agreed to submit a request for proposals for an outside firm to handle the district’s food service duties after Food Services Director Sharlene Wong requested a subsidy of more than $400,000.

School officials had been anticipating the deficit and in the event the district decides to outsource the food services account, the employees will still have an opportunity to retain their jobs, according to the Record-Journal.
