Juris Doctorate, Quinnipiac University

What is your occupation?

Attorney for 29 years

Do you have a family? If so, please tell us about them.

Wife, Jane Callanan, Australian Shepherds, Jeter and Hawkins

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?

None

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?

Yes, Town Council beginning the term that started in 2010 through today

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?

I believe that my experience in Wallingford will lend to a smooth transition and allow Wallingford to progress, while maintaining our stable taxes.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is \_\_\_, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The single most pressing issue to my constituents is maintaining their cost of living as reasonably well as possible in the present economic environment. I intend to present stable and responsible budgets that take into consideration the needs of residents while not overburdening taxpayers.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

Experience. I have twenty-nine years of experience practicing law, several of those years working for municipalities. I am completing my seventh term (fourteenth year) on the town council and my fifth term (tenth year) as chairman of the council.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Modernizing electronic access to town hall, a better system of web/electronic bill payments, digitizing the time/wage process for employees.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

While I have served as chairman of the council since 2014, during COVID, I coordinated with the administration to host public meetings via a web platform. My work led to the other boards and commissions in town hosting meetings using a similar format.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Hard work with perseverance are the keys to success.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I have experience working with constituents and town departments to solve mutual concerns. One example are the series of meetings that led to the top of North Main Street being closed for Halloween. As a result of the growing draw to North Main Street, largely from the tremendous Halloween decorations in the neighborhood, thousands of children were coming to trick-or-treat. Closing the top two blocks of North Main Street has made Halloween in that neighborhood much safer for children.
