Wallingford Health Officials Issue Statement On EEE Mosquitoes
The health department issued a statement Tuesday amid recent reports of mosquitoes testing positive for EEE in Connecticut.
WALLINGFORD, CT — With recent reports of mosquitoes testing positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis in Connecticut, the Wallingford Health Department issued the following statement on Tuesday:
“The Wallingford Health Department in conjunction with the Connecticut Agricultural Station have been monitoring the mosquito trapping site in town located on South Elm Street dating back to the week of June 17, 2019,” Wallingford Director of Health Stephen Civitelli, RS, MPH, wrote in a press release. “At this time, there has not been a positive result in the mosquito testing for either West Nile Virus (WNV) or Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).
“The Health Department will continue to monitor the situation and inform the community as this matter evolves. Proper precautions should always be taken as it relates to mosquito bite prevention.”

The health department offers the following tips to help prevent mosquito bites:
- Wear long pants and long sleeves when going outdoors
- Apply mosquito repellant spray with DEET to all exposed skin
- Remove standing water where mosquitoes breed on your property
- Use screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitos from entering your home
