Wallingford K-9 Tate Sniffs Out Drug Bust After Car Crash: Police

A 63-year-old man faces DUI and drug charges after police found 13 bags of crack cocaine in his car after a collision on Saturday evening.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford K-9 Tate helped sniff out a drug bust following a minor motor vehicle accident on Saturday evening. Police responded to the collision at about 7:44 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the intersection of South Colony Road and Quinnipiac Street. There were no injuries in the accident.

The collision occurred when a Ford Focus was traveling north on South Colony Road near the intersection of Quinnipiac Street when it was struck from behind by a Mercury Grand Marquis operated by Robert Peterson, according to Sgt. James Cifarelli.

Cifarelli said Peterson, 63, was determined to be operating under the influence of alcohol following a collaborative investigation between the traffic and patrol divisions.

Officer Lou Brangi and K-9 Tate conducted a search of Peterson’s vehicle and recovered 13 bags of crack cocaine and other prescription medications, according to Cifarelli.

Peterson, of South Cherry Street, was arrested on charges of possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, operating under the influence and driving too close.

He was released on a $2,000 surety bond.
