Wallingford Man Charged in North Haven Funeral Stabbing

An argument at the funeral turned physical and police say the suspect tried to flee the scene in the back seat of a limousine.

A Wallingford man is due back in court Oct. 22 for allegedly stabbing another man at a funeral in North Haven on Wednesday.

The Meriden Record-Journal reports Robert Ferrie, 54, of 54 Clinton St., Wallingford, was arraigned Thursday in Meriden Superior Court. Ferrie was previously identified as a Meriden resident by North Haven Police.

North Haven Police responded to a report of a stabbing at the All Saints Cemetery in North Haven at about 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

While attending a funeral, a group of individuals began arguing and the argument became physical and one man was stabbed several times, according to police.

The Record-Journal reports the funeral was for Ferrie’s mother and Ferrie, Jennifer Marturano, granddaughter of the deceased, her fiancée and another uncle were involved in their argument.

Ferrie and the other uncle allegedly began yelling at the couple that “they should not have been there” and the fiancée was then stabbed by Ferrie, according to the Record-Journal.

North Haven Police said the victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening injuries.

Police said Ferrie attempted to flee the scene in the back seat of a limousine. Officers stopped the vehicle near the entrance to the cemetery and took Ferrie into custody.

Ferrie was charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and breach of peace.
