Wallingford Mayor Seeking 19th Consecutive Term

Mayor William Dickinson Jr. announced this week that he is running for a 19th term, and did so while dressed as one of the Three Musketeers.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Longtime Wallingford Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr. has continued his tradition of running for re-election, and announcing his intentions while donning historic garb. Dickinson, a 36-year incumbent, announced at this week’s Republican Town Committee meeting that he will run for a 19th consecutive term and did so while dressed as one of the Three Musketeers, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

Dickinson spoke of using the credo of “one for all and all for one” while facing challenges by “balancing interests,” according to the Record-Journal.

Dickinson, who is the second-longest serving mayor in Connecticut — only Prospect’s Robert Chatfield has served longer — told the New Haven Register that he continues to serve because there are still things left for him to do and he said the state government’s current path is “unsustainable.”

Dickinson is facing another challenge from Democrat Jared Liu, who announced his intentions to run for a rematch of the last election earlier this year. Dickinson defeated Liu by 1,659 votes in 2017, which was his closest margin of victory in recent years.
