Wallingford Official Makes Obscene Gesture to Resident, Apologizes During Public Hearing

Emotions ran high during Thursday night's public hearing on the mayor's proposed budget, which calls for a 1.53 percent tax increase.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Emotions ran high during Thursday night’s public hearing on William W. Dickinson Jr.’s proposed $158 million budget for 2016-17 and, at one point, town Comptroller James Bowes made an obscene gesture to a resident, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports a resident called out Bowes for giving “the middle finger” during the public hearing. The resident thought Bowes made the gesture to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Salvatore Menzo, but Bowes quickly apologized and clarified that Menzo was not the target.

The obscene gesture was directed at former mayoral candidate Donald Kennedy, who Bowes apologized to later in the night and said he has been under a lot of pressure, according to the Record-Journal.
