Wallingford Robotics Team Advances To World Championship

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help the team cover fees associated with the trip to the world championship competition.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford robotics team is among the seven teams from across Connecticut that have qualified for global competitions in Houston and Dallas.

CT STEM Academy will compete for the world championship in Dallas, Texas in May.

The team has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover registration fees, robot repairs/parts, travel, and accommodations.

“Help CT STEM Academy raise funds for the VEX IQ Robotics Team to attend the World Championships,” organizers wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Our team will be traveling to Dallas, TX to compete in the VEX IQ World Championships. Please consider donating to this project.”

CT STEM Academy was established in 2012 as a collaborative program between the Wallingford Youth and Social Services and the Spanish Community of Wallingford (SCOW) with support from the Wallingford Rotary Club and Connecticut Education Association.

“This innovative enrichment program is designed for students interested in deepening their knowledge of STEM concepts,” reads a post on its site. “Our programs place a special emphasis on gender equity, cultural diversity and direct family involvement. Current, and past, supporters of this program include: 3M, NASA Summer of Innovation Project, Clorox Foundation, AT&T, the Wallingford Education Foundation and the National Education Association Foundation.”

The team has set a fundraising goal of $2,000 on the GoFundMe page.
