Wallingford Store Owner Fights Off Attempted Robber

A man broke into a downtown business early Tuesday morning and a fight spilled out onto the sidewalk. Police are investigating.

A Wallingford business owner fought a man who broke into his store early Tuesday morning and eventually fled on foot after the fight spilled onto the sidewalk on Center Street.

NBC Connecticut reports that police are investigating the burglary turned robbery, which happened at the C–Store convenience store, located at 44 Center Street, around 5:18 a.m.

The suspect forcibly entered through the front door, which was locked, and a “violent fight ensued,” after the owner confronted the man, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The suspect was able to break free and ran off before police arrived. The store owner sustained minor injuries during the fight and was treated at the scene, according to NBC.
