Wallingford Woman Accused Of Collecting $8K In Unemployment While Employed
The woman was arrested on Thursday morning.

A Wallingford woman is accused of illegally collecting more than $8,000 in unemployment compensation benefits while she was employed.
Jean Corriveau, 58, of 59 Saw Mill Drive, was arrested Thursday and charged with one count each of first-degree larceny by defrauding a public community and unemployment compensation fraud.
The arrest is the result of an investigation by the Unemployment Compensation Fraud Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney following a complaint by the Connecticut Department of Labor, according to a press release from the state Division of Criminal Justice.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Corriveau fraudulently collected approximately $8,684 in unemployment benefits from October 2013 through March 2014 when, in fact, she was employed.
Corriveau was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Nov. 24.

First-degree larceny by defrauding a public community is a Class B felony punishable by not less than one year nor more than 20 years in prison and/or up to a $15,000 fine, according to the press release.
Unemployment compensation fraud in excess of $500 is a Class D felony punishable by not less than one year nor more than five years in prison and/or up to a $5,000 fine.
