Wallingford's Toyota Oakdale Theatre Seeks Elimination of Admission Tax
The move could help make the Live Nation-owned venue more competitive.

WALLINGFORD, CT - The Toyota Oakdale Theatre is seeking to drop the 10 percent admission tax it charges concertgoers, a move that could help make the venue more competitive, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.
The Live Nation-owned theatre charged the fee to pay off $10 million in debt to the state, which it successfully achieved. As such, it now wants to eliminate the tax.
According to the Record-Journal, while there is some agreement among legislators in Hartford to drop the tax, the venue is seeking about $1.2 million in state bonding funds to pay for additional soundproofing materials.

One possible solution, floated by State Rep. Emil “Buddy” Altobello (R-Meriden) suggests that the theatre consider keeping the fee but at a much-reduced amount, possibly 1 percent, to help pay for the soundproofing improvements.
