WALLINGFORD, CT — A man wanted by Wallingford Police was arrested after a wild high-speed chase along I-84 East that ended in Southbury after the suspect rolled over in a stolen vehicle. The suspect, identified Nathaniel Calloway, ran from the crash and jumped over a fence but was quickly apprehended by a swarm of Southbury Police Officers and State Troopers on Monday afternoon, according to Connecticut State Police.
At about 2 p.m. on March 26, State Police were motoring traffic in the area of Exit 10 in Newtown when a police cruiser with a license plate reader (LPR) received a “hit” on a passing Infiniti that indicated the registration was suspended. As the trooper pulled onto the highway in an attempt to stop the Infiniti, the operator accelerated and continued traveling I-84 eastbound at an extremely high rate of speed, according to police. Calloway is accused of accelerating to more than 115 mph while travelling eastbound on I-84.
“The trooper attempted to catch up to the Infiniti, however lost sight of it in the area exit 11,” police wrote in a press release. “As the trooper continued eastbound he came upon the Infiniti rolled over on the right shoulder. When the trooper began approaching the vehicle a male suspect exited the crashed Infiniti through the back window and fled over a fence onto River Road in Southbury.
