Community Corner

YMCA Letters of Kindness

With the circumstances that surround us currently, our mission of connecting people of all ages is even more essential to us.

In an effort to spread hope, the Wallingford Family YMCA has launched a "Letters of Kindness" campaign. Our kids are creating messages of kindness, support and hope for individuals who are in isolation due to being at high risk. The Wallingford Y has been strengthening the Wallingford community for 75 years by connecting people of all ages and backgrounds to bridge the gaps in community needs. With the circumstances that surround us currently, this mission is even more essential to us. During this time of need, the Y has partnered with Gaylord Hospital and Masonicare to help meet the needs of patients and residents. In turn, this project has helped to bring purpose to our youth, who are seeking to fill the void that has been created by social distancing.

We invite the community to join us in these efforts! Letters and artwork may be dropped off in the mailbox labeled "Letters of Kindness" on the front porch of the Teen Center, 55 S. Elm St., Wallingford, next to the East Side Y, or sent electronically to Amber Albe at aalbe@wallingfordymca.org. Words of affirmation, drawings, colors, stickers, smiles are all welcome. We hope to spread joy from those creating these letters to those receiving them. Some of these letters of kindness can be viewed on our website, https://www.wallingfordymca.org/.
