1.5 Pounds of Pot Found During Waterford Police Pullover

A passing motorist observed someone allegedly driving erratically near the Montville town line and thought they may have been intoxicated.

A motorist contacted Waterford Emergency Communications Center after observing a possible intoxicated driver traveling southbound on Route 85 near the Montville town line. The call came at approximately 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.

Officer Michelle Sylvestre was able to locate the vehicle and follow it for distance, during which time she observed the vehicle in question allegedly fail to travel in the proper lane, Waterford Lt. Stephen Bellos said.

Based on the caller’s report, and her own observations, Sylvestre stopped the vehicle on Route 85 near Target. Officer Mark Gelinas responded as her backup. During their investigation they determined that the operator of the vehicle was allegedly under the influence of liquor and/or drugs.

“Additionally, it was determined that the passenger in the vehicle was [allegedly] in possession of approximately one and a half pounds of marijuana,” accoding to the Waterford Police Department. “Both subjects were arrested and later released for court dates at New London Superior Court GA-10.”

  • Charges: Operating a Motor Vehicle while under the Influence of Liquor and/or Drugs
  • Failure to Maintain Proper Lane
  • Passenger: Lamont Bell, 9 Huntington St., New London
  • Charges: Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell
