1st Ever Waterford 'Stuff the Humvee' A Success

Waterford police said the donated items filled the Humvee... then filled a Ford Explorer, Ford Expedition and Chevy four-door pick-up truck!

The first ’Stuff the Humvee’ event at Walmart was a phenomenal success!

We started out with the expectation of filling the Humvee, which we did…and then we filled a Ford Explorer, and then a Ford Expedition, and then a full-sized Chevrolet four0door pickup. By “filled” we mean to the rooftop — the vehicles were completely stuffed with toys, food, and clothing.

The generosity of the people who walked in and out of the store was humbling – several of the officers commented about how good they felt in participating, how nice it was to see the outpouring of kindness.

We drove the trucks over to the Waterford Youth Services Bureau today, and unloaded them, and gave them a bunch of gift cards as well. All told, we filled four trucks, got three bikes, and received $601 in gift cards. People were stopping us as we drove out of the lot after the event was over to give us money for donations!

Thanks to the following officers for volunteering their time – Officer Tran, Officer Sylvestre, Officer Nickerson, Officer Shea, Officer O’Connell, Officer Anderson, Sergeant Balestracci, Sergeant Silva, and Lieutenant Mahoney. Some worked after a midnight shift, some stayed the entire time, some came in before work. Regardless each of them helped to help those in need.

Thank you all for your generosity, it is amazing how our local community responds, and further solidifies the bond between the Waterford Police Department and our town.
