2 Arrested, Charged with Shoplifting at Crystal Mall: Waterford Police

Both suspects fled on foot when approached by officers and dropped shopping bags designed to defeat store security systems.

WATERFORD, CT - Police arrested two Providence, Rhode Island, men Thursday charged with shoplifting at the Crystal Mall in Waterford, according to a release.

The arrest occurred while officers were conducting surveillance of local businesses within the Crystal Mall to target an increase in shoplifting.

Police identified 26-year old Mario Antelo during the surveillance, who had an active warrant out for his arrest. He was with another man at the time, later identified as 23-year old Eric Pacheco.

Both suspects fled on foot when approached by officers and dropped shopping bags designed to defeat store security systems.

The pursuit lasted for several minutes before both suspects were caught and subsequently arrested. Police said Antelo had several active warrants out for his arrest, one of which was from the state of Massachusetts.

Both men were held on bond and scheduled for court on Friday in New London.
