• Waterford Student Named Among Winners Of National Merit Scholarship (patch.com) — A Waterford High School student, Titus Barricklow, has been named a National Merit Texas Christian University scholarship winner, earning annual support toward his undergraduate studies. The recognition highlights his strong PSAT performance and academic promise in mathematics, and places him among more than 2,500 college-sponsored scholarship recipients nationwide, with more awards to be announced in July.    

• Lancers went on a memorable run to make history in girls' tennis (theday.com) — Waterford High’s girls’ tennis team just captured its first-ever state championship, capping a stunning run as a No. 20 seed with five straight road wins. Coach Ed Kolnaski’s Lancers pulled off multiple 4-3 nail-biters, including a dramatic comeback in the Class M final, etching Waterford’s program into school and state record books.    

• Bat tests positive for rabies in CT, as data points to a slightly increase in number of cases (courant.com) — A rabid bat found in North Stonington has prompted a reminder that Waterford is part of the Ledge Light Health District area seeing a slight uptick in rabies cases. Officials urge residents to avoid contact with wild animals, keep pets’ rabies vaccinations current, and seek immediate medical care if they suspect any exposure.
