Chloe the Kitten Suffers Injury at Hands of Children; ACO Makes Plea for Donations

The kitten has a broken humerus and the only option Animal Control can afford is euthanization — an option they do not want to take.

Meet Chloe. This four-month-old kitten’s humerus was broken by children in the New London neighborhood she called home.

New London Animal Control said there are four options available for Chloe and the least expensive one — euthanizing — is not the option they want for this sweet kitten. It is, however, the only one their budget allows.

“Our first option is to euthanize her, not something I really want to do to a friendly and sweet four-month-old girl,” Animal Control wrote on its Facebook page.

“Our second option is to splint the injury, which is what we’ve done so far,” the post stated.

Chloe would need X-rays and a splint change every week, with the second option.

“Our third option is to amputate the leg,” according to Animal Control. “Again, not really what we want to do, but it is an option, albeit an expensive one.”

The fourth option — repairing the break via surgery by an orthopedic vet — is the most expensive solution with the longest recuperation time.

“I am hoping that everyone out there who reads this would be willing to make a donation to our vet to help pay for Chloe’s care,” Animal Control wrote.

The vet used by New London Animal Control is VCA-New London Animal Hospital, 122 Cross Rd., Waterford, CT 06385.

Although the vet gives animal control an ample discount, they anticipate the care will cost more than $1,000.

Checks may be sent to the hospital directly with “Chloe’s Fund-New London ACO” written on the check. Those who want to make a donation via debit or credit card may call the vet’s office at 860-442-0611.
