Man Hits Pole On Great Neck Road; Arrested For DUI
19-Year-Old Took Off On Foot After Crash, Found By NLPD K-9, Police Said
A man hit a telephone pole early this morning, cracking it in half, and then took off on foot to avoid police, Police Lt. Brett Mahoney said.
Shane Battista, 19, of 8 Seabreeze Drive, was charged at 3:16 this morning with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, interfering with an officer and breach of peace. Battista hit a telephone pole on Great Neck Road early this morning, and then took off on foot, Mahoney said.
A New London Police dog tracked down Battista, Mahoney said.

At 9:30 this morning, Connecticut Light and Power was still replacing the telephone pole, which was destroyed. The entire cost of replacing the pole is billed directly to Battista, Mahoney said. Also, if somebody is found guilty of driving under the influence, they can face a $8,000 fine, Mahoney said.
Battista was not injured, Mahoney said.

Lea Falcone, 27, of 31 East Main St, Fulmore, NY, was charged at 10:40 p.m. with two counts of evading responsibility of serious physical injury or property damage and failure to drive in the proper lane on a multilane highway.
Aug. 18
Anthony Angol, 29, of 161 Rope Ferry Rd, was charged at 3:35 p.m. with disorderly conduct.
Helga Roos, 60, of 161 Rope Ferry Rd, was charged at 3:35 p.m. with disorderly conduct.
Aug. 19
Shane Battista, 19, of 8 Seabreeze Dr, was charged at 3:16 a.m. with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, interfering with an officer: non-assaultive and breach of peace.
