New London-Waterford Speedbowl To Reopen For 2017 Season After All

The New London-Waterford Speedbowl has announced the facility will reopen for the 2017 racing season after all thanks to a new agreement.

WATERFORD, CT - The New London-Waterford Speedbowl recently announced the racing facility will reopen for the 2017 season after all, according to a release on the Speedbowl's website. The future of the facility has been uncertain since owner Bruce Bemer was arrested and charged in connection to a Danbury sex trafficking ring.

The facility will reopen thanks to a lease agreement with George Whitney of Whitney Farm Racing, LLC. Whitney has over 20 years of racing experience and recently worked at National Championships as a Crew Chief, according to the website.

“The Speedbowl is my home track and I am proud to be given the opportunity to give back to a track that not only has supported family racing for generations, including mine, but has the best short track racing in New England,” Whitney said in a statement posted to the website.

An updated race schedule is being reviewed and will be posted as soon as dates are confirmed. Additional details will follow in the coming weeks, which will be posted to the facility's website and Facebook page.
