Quaker Hill Man Posthumously Honored For Naval Service

A Quaker Hill man was posthumously recognized for his naval service in World War II.

WATERFORD, CT - A Waterford man was posthumously recognized for his naval service in World War II, the New London Day reported. Albert Johnson, a life-long resident of Quaker Hill, was recognized at a ceremony on August 22 at New London City Hall.

Johnson served as a boatswain’s mate second-class on the USS Marvin McIntyre, according to the New London Day. He served from May 1944 to June 1946. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

Johnson's medals were presented at the ceremony by U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, according to the New London Day. A proclamation was also presented by New London Mayor Michael Passero, during which he thanked Johnson for his service.
