Sen. Maynard Was Driving the Wrong Way at the Time of the Accident: PD
Maynard also doesn't remember the crash and suffered a severe concussion in the two-vehicle accident.

State Sen. Andrew Maynard was in fact driving the wrong way when his car struck another vehicle on Route 32 in Waterford Thursday afternoon, the New London Day reports Tuesday.
Maynard, of Stonington, and Laury Benjamin-Scelfo of Uncasville, got into a motor vehicle accident at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Maynard was returning home from the State Capitol in Hartford.
Waterford police told the Day that they don’t know why Maynard was driving the wrong way and plan to speak with the senator.

Maynard was released from the hospital Monday and he doesn’t recall the crash, and suffered a severe concussion in the accident, the Day reports, according to Maynard’s attorney.
Maynard’s car was badly damaged and ended up down an embankment and he was taken to an area hospital. Benjamin-Scelfo’s vehicle was totalled, the Day reports and she has reported shoulder and neck pain.

Waterford police did say there is no evidence that alcohol played a role in the accident.
Initially, the accident was reported as a one-vehicle accident involving Maynard and then it was changed to a two-car accident.
Laury Benjamin-Scelfo’s husband told the New London Day Maynard was swerving all over the road at the time of the accident.
Maynard’s attorney Robert Reardon, of New London, said during a visit to see his client in the hospital, the senator expressed concern over the welfare of the other driver involved in the accident.
Maynard, a Democrat, who represents, Griswold, Groton, North Stonington, Plainfield, Preston, Sterling, Stonington and Voluntown, was seriously injured in a fall in his home in July 2014 and has been undergoing physical therapy since.
Maynard is chairman of the General Assembly’s Transportation Committee, and is the Senate’s Deputy Majority Leader.
