Volunteers Help Get Speedbowl In Shape For 2017 Racing Season

Racing fans flocked to the New London-Waterford Speedbowl​ this week to help get the facility ready for its upcoming opening day.

WATERFORD, CT - Racing fans flocked to the New London-Waterford Speedbowl this week to help get the facility ready for opening day, the New London Day reported. The facility is currently scheduled to open Saturday, June 24.

Approximately a dozen volunteers worked around the track Wednesday afternoon armed with spray bottles and cloth, according to the new London Day. The group came to help out in response to a message posted on the track's Facebook page Monday asking for volunteers. (To sign up for Waterford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

The Speedbowl's staff had already spent the past few months preparing for the 2017 season, the New London Day reported.

The future of the facility has been uncertain since owner Bruce Bemer was arrested and charged in connection to a Danbury sex trafficking ring in March. The racing facility was originally planned to open the weekend of May 6 for its first racing season.
