Waterford Police Ask Public to Support Project Blue Light this Weekend

The color blue symbolizes peace, and the thin blue line associated with law enforcement.

Information via Waterford Police Department

It is that time of year again, the lights will be for sale at the Waterford Police Department for those needing one. [The Department] is asking for everyone to turn their blue light(s) on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 26, 2016. Please support your men and ladies in blue and show them you care.

Project Blue Light began in 1988 by Mrs. Dolly Craig the mother in law of Danny Gleason, a Philadelphia police officer killed in the line of duty in 1986. Mrs. Craig contacted Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S) and stated she would be placing blue lights in her front window to remember Officer Gleason and his widow Pam who died in an auto accident earlier in 1988. The idea has since spread nationwide and has been shared with others.

As the line of duty deaths have increased over the past few years now more than ever the blue light is needed as a reminder for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to help those in need.

The blue bulb that you will display will send a dual message. Its light will shine bright in the night to remember those who have fallen, and for those who continue to protect and serve in your community.

Waterford Police Department is looking for everyone in the community to illuminate the blue lights(s) in their window(s) to show support for your police department. Starting date for the blue lights to shine in Waterford will be Saturday November 26, 2016, and let’s continue to illuminate the blue lights through the holiday season, until January 2, 2017.

The Waterford Police Department has on hand an amount of blue light bulbs, which we are selling for a donation of $ 5.00. All monies will be donated to a Law Enforcement Memorial.

Thank you for supporting your Waterford Police Department.

For anyone interested in looking into the number of law enforcement officers that have been killed in the line of duty for 2016 go to the website ODMP.org (Officer Down Memorial Page).

Thank you; any questions contact Sgt. Dana Seymour or Officer Ted Krysztofiak at (860) 442-9451. Again thank you to everyone that contributes, and we will be traveling around the Waterford Community looking for the residences that have blue light(s).
