Waterford Shellfish Commission Representatives Raise Concerns about State Bureau

The forum was held at the Groton Elks Club this week.

GROTON, CT – A forum was hosted by state officials Wednesday to discuss issues involving the state Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Aquaculture, according to The Day.

The bureau tests samples from shellfish beds across the state, The Day reported. A member of the Groton Shellfish Commission complained, however, that the burden of testing has fallen on local volunteer shellfish commissions over the years.

Representatives from commissions in Groton, Waterford, East Lyme and Noank were present at the forum, according to The Day. Talks have also begun about establishing a testing lab at the Marine Science Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut.
