York Corrections to Host Cop-On-Top Event for Special Olympics at The Dinosaur Place, July 2

Officers with York Correctional Institution will host a Cop-On-Top event to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut.

Officers with York Correctional Institution will host a Cop-On-Top event to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut at The Dinosaur Place & Nature’s Art Village, 1650 Hartford-New London Turnpike, Montville, on Saturday, July 25th, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

During a Cop-on-Top event, members of law enforcement go on top of a building to call attention to Special Olympics and the achievements and abilities of its athletes, and to collect donations from patrons and passersby until they meet their fundraising goal. All are invited to come out and support these heroes of the cause. All donations the officers receive for their efforts will go to Special Olympics Connecticut to support its year-round sports, health and fitness programs for athletes of all abilities.

Cop-On-Top is a Law Enforcement Torch Run event to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut. To find out more about Special Olympics Connecticut, visit www.soct.org.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Connecticut is one of the movement’s largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicles. This year-round program involves law enforcement officers from across the state who volunteer their time to raise awareness and funds through events including Tip-a-Cops, Cop-on-Tops, and Jail N’ Bail fundraisers.

In addition, each year in June, over 1,500 officers and athletes carry the Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” through hundreds of cities and towns across the state, covering over 530 miles over three days. The runners run the “Final Leg” and light the ceremonial cauldron during Opening Ceremonies for the Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games.
