2 Seriously Injured In Crash On 1-84 In West Hartford

Police are investigating a chain-reaction crash that seriously injured 2 people and sent several others to the hospital on Friday night.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash on I-84 in West Hartford that sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries on Friday night. Timothy Sotis, 48, of New Haven, needed to be extricated from his vehicle after it crossed the center median on I-84 East and struck a vehicle on the westbound side of the highway and set off a chain reaction, according to state police.

The passenger, 52-year-old Jacqueline Denning of East Hartford, was ejected from the vehicle in the crash. Both Sotis and Denning were hospitalized with serious injuries, according to police.

The crash occurred at about 6:50 p.m. on Feb. 2 when Sotis was operating his GMC Envoy on I-84 East in the area of Exit 40 in West Hartford when it crossed the center median, became airborne, struck the guardrail and then struck an Audi Quattro that was traveling in the left lane of the westbound side, according to police.

Police said the initial impact led to a chain reaction in which three other vehicles were also struck. All other operators and passengers involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for further evaluation, according to police.
