What does this mean?
It means that the chemicals that make up the products you buy and use everyday have never been tested to determine whether they're harmful or not.
How did this happen?
The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), created in 1976, and the only piece of environmental chemical policy that has never been updated, doesn't require that chemicals be tested prior to their use in the market. This is crazy!
While this past year has seen a lot of activity and attempts to update TSCA, it still hasn't happened, and when it does, it could take years before companies are in full compliance.
In the same way that you are likely proactively avoiding Genetically Modified foods well before any government rulings as to their safety, or even their labeling, you also should be taking proactive steps towards reducing your exposure to environmental chemicals rather than waiting around for government to keep us safe.
So, here is your challenge.....
Begin to look at the labels of your cleaning products and personal care products. Do you know what those ingredients are? Start keeping an eye open and start questioning the substances you may be exposed to on a daily basis.
There are simple but effective changes you can start making today that will help you and your family reduce your toxic burden and live a healthier life.
