Part II: 'Screenagers' Program In West Hartford Aimed At Curbing Negative High Tech Influences

An April 30 workshop at Whiting Lane School guides families in West Hartford on healthy tech habits and digital contracts.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A community group and local schools are hosting a family-focused workshop this week aimed at helping parents and elementary-age students set healthier technology boundaries.

The second installment of a two-part spring series, “From Screenagers to Tech Contracts,” will be held Thursday, April 30, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Whiting Lane Elementary School, 47 Whiting Lane.

The session will bring together local high school principals to guide families through a hands-on process of creating personalized digital use agreements.

Organizers say the workshop will combine expert-informed strategies with structured templates to help caregivers and children define expectations around screen time and device use.

Participants will take part in a facilitated discussion designed to produce a “family digital contract,” outlining agreed-upon technology habits at home.

The event is presented by the West Hartford Community of Concern in partnership with West Hartford Public Schools, OK to Delay West Hartford, and is sponsored by the West Hartford Prevention Partnership.

The event follows the first session in the series, “Screenagers: Elementary Age Edition,” which took place on April 23.
