WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford’s Department of Public Works will host its annual open house Saturday, May 16, as part of National Public Works Week celebrations.
The family-oriented event will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the department’s Brixton Street facility and will feature equipment displays, interactive games, recycling exhibits and opportunities for children to climb aboard large public works vehicles.
Residents will also be able to meet public works employees and local recycling partners during the event.
At the same time, Infoshred LLC will offer free confidential paper shredding nearby on Oakwood Avenue from 9 a.m. until noon, or until the shredding truck reaches capacity.
The shredding service is available only to West Hartford residents, who must provide identification. Commercial businesses will not be accepted.
Officials asked residents to bring only sensitive documents and to separate junk mail and other non-sensitive paper before arriving.
Organizers are also encouraging attendees to donate non-perishable food items for the West Hartford Food Pantry.
The town said the effort is part of a statewide “Fill-A-Public Works Truck” campaign involving 34 Connecticut communities collecting food and household goods for local food banks.
Additional information is available through the West Hartford Department of Public Works at 860-561-8100.
