
East meets West and sparks ignite this summer in the Theater Camp’s performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I, “Getting to Know You” edition, on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Both performances are sponsored by Westfarms, and will be held in the Herbert Gilman Theater at the Mandell JCC, 335 Bloomfield Avenue West Hartford, CT.
Directed by Carolyn Weiser, this children’s production tells the riveting story of English widow, Anna Leonowens (Sydney Weiser) and her young son, Louis (Sadie Margolis) in 1862, as they travel to Siam and are summoned to the Royal Palace by the King (Nathan Schachter). Keeping both a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another in a truly unique story of friendship.
