I was recently asked "What are the benefits of hiring a pet care company that does house calls with employees, over a company that has independent contractors?"

1. Availability: A professional pet sitting business with employees will have greater availability and can accommodate your preferred/last-minute schedule.
2. Back-Up Plan: A pet sitter with employees has a back-up plan if there is an emergency. If a personal emergency arises, another employee (who is trained by the company and has access to the specific routine of your pet and can call the office with questions) is able to fill in. No more having your pet sitter cancel at the last minute.
3. Background Checks: Pet sitting employees are professionally background checked, references have been called, and a detailed national background check performed. At WHPS, we will not jeopardize our hard-earned reputation hiring anyone who is not reliable, responsible and a pet-loving person.
4. Liability Insurance: If your pet sitter has employees instead of independent contractors, they will be covered under the pet sitters liability and bonding insurance, which protects you if your pet is injured or if something is damaged in your home.
5. Workers Compensation: If your pet sitter has employees (instead of independent contractors), they will be covered by workers compensation insurance, which protects you if a pet sitter is hurt on your property. Workers comp. is required by law in Connecticut.
