WEST HARTFORD, CT — Attention West Hartford motorists.

There is now a blue light alert system in place to let you know the town has implemented a parking ban.

The West Hartford Department of Public Works has installed a blue light parking ban notification system on the traffic control mast arms at all key intersections along Farmington Avenue to the Hartford city line.

"While neighboring communities have these in place, this is a first for West Hartford and will be a valuable tool for our snow and ice control winter operations," wrote the town in an announcement on Tuesday.

Here’s what motorists need to know:

• When the blue light flashes, a parking ban is in effect, and on-street parking is prohibited.

• Avoid parking on the streets during this time to prevent fines or towing and to ensure smooth snow removal operations.

• Parking bans are implemented to allow crews to clear snow and ice from curb to curb.

• When the blue light is off, on-street parking is permitted.
