“Care” in action: New England Urgent Care Employees Feed West Hartford Families in Need this Thanksgiving

Putting compassionate care in action, New England Urgent Care employees collected $1,100 for families in need this Thanksgiving

Putting compassionate care in action, New England Urgent Care employees collected $1,100 towards the purchase of Thanksgiving dinners for families in West Hartford and Elmwood.

Physician Assistant Michael Zerbe and Radiology Technician Luciane Mastrangeli — two members of the New England Urgent Care staff — spearheaded the effort and worked with West Hartford Social Service Director, Ed Sandy.

Zerbe said, “In a combined effort with the Elmwood-West Hartford Stop & Shop, which generously donated $100 towards our collection, New England Urgent Care employees collected enough money for 18 Thanksgiving dinners. Each Stop & Shop dinner package feeds a family of six and is valued at $59.99. The package consists of a 12-pound turkey, stuffing, gravy, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry relish, green bean casserole, and a choice of an apple or pumpkin pie.”

The Monday before Thanksgiving, New England Urgent Care employees will purchase dinner package vouchers from Stop & Shop and deliver them to West Hartford Social Services where they will be distributed to an assigned family in need. Due to privacy and confidentiality reasons, families' names are not disclosed. To pick up their meal, each family will present their voucher to Stop & Shop the day before Thanksgiving.

“New England Urgent Care employees are excited their contribution will go a long way toward helping needy families this holiday,” explains Mastrangeli. “We care about our patients and our community. This is another way for us to put our compassion for others into action.”
