Chinese Buyer Eyes UConn Property in West Hartford

The proposed project calls for the building of a new high school at the site.

The Weiming Education Group from China is reportedly interested in buying a soon-to-be vacant UConn property in West Hartford to build an international high school.

The Hartford Courant writes that the group is interested in buying the 58-acre parcel located at Lawler Road, Trout Brook Drive and Asylum Avenue for an as-yet unknown price.

Weiming currently operates more than 40 K-12 schools, and if this plan moves forward it would be the company’s first international school in the United States.

“Many families and people in the state of Connecticut are very internationally oriented, a lot of companies are internationally oriented, and it creates an environment with an outward looking view on global commerce and what is possible internationally,” Tim DiScipio, CEO of Weiming Education Group USA, told the Courant.
