Elmwood Is Blooming Again In West Hartford
The Elmwood section of West Hartford is bursting with flowers thanks to the efforts of businesses and residents supporting the project.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — The Elmwood section of West Hartford is blooming again with more than 50 terracotta planters bursting with flowers thanks to businesses and residents supporting the Elmwood is Blooming project. West Hartford's Elmwood Business Association and Charlie Hilborn partnered with KNOX to beautify Elmwood with residents also contributing to the cost of the planters. It is the third year of the project.
Almost 30 local businesses and also friends of Elmwood sponsored beautiful planters that will be maintained by KNOX through the summer and into the fall. The plants were delivered on Tuesday.
"Because of the cooler weather, they are coming out later than last year, but given the larger number of planters in Elmwood we wanted to make sure they had a few more weeks to grow,” said Ron Pitz from Knox.

“We are so grateful to the Elmwood businesses and this year also the residents and excited to have KNOX help us again to enhance the beauty of Elmwood,” Rick Liftig, president of Elmwood Business Association, said.
“This was a dream to enhance the community where I grew up, raised my family and where I continue to live and work,” said Hilborn, who is the owner of Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home and coordinates the planters each year. “I am so thankful to the businesses and local residents who stepped up and continue to support the Elmwood is Blooming! project.”
