Employees Fight Off Robber With Coffee Pot, Broom: Police

Police say employees at Dunkin' Donuts fought off a would-be robber who left empty handed but then went to steal a car and was arrested.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Employees at Dunkin’ Donuts fought off a would-be robber with a broom handle and a pot of coffee early Thursday morning, according to West Hartford Police. The attempted robbery occurred at about 6:20 a.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts located at 970 New Britain Avenue in West Hartford.

The employees reported being robbed by a man who threatened them with a hypodermic needle, according to police. The suspect attempted to steal $100 during the robbery. After the suspect left empty handed, police say he went around the corner to 82 Dexter Avenue in Hartford where he stole a motor vehicle.

A short time later Hartford Police located and arrested the suspect, later identified as Nicholas Moore, in the stolen vehicle. Hartford Police charged Moore for the stolen vehicle and then released him to West Hartford Police.

Moore, 31, of Old Musket Drive in Newington, was arrested on charges of criminal attempt at second-degree robbery and criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.

There were no injuries reported during the attempted robbery, according to police.
