One Person Seriously Burned In West Hartford House Fire: UPDATE

WEST HARTFORD, CT — One person suffered serious burn injuries in a house fire on Park Road Wednesday morning, according to the West Hartford Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 8:54 a.m. to a reported structure fire at 516 Park Road.

When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the attic of the two-story, single-family home.

Firefighters confirmed an active fire on the second floor and launched an interior attack while conducting a primary search of the residence.

The home's occupant had evacuated before firefighters arrived but sustained serious burn injuries.

A West Hartford Fire Department firefighter-paramedic provided immediate medical care before the victim was transported to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Fire crews brought the blaze under control within minutes, and the fire was declared under control at 9:35 a.m.

The fire caused damage to the home's second floor and attic, with smoke damage reported throughout the residence.

The cause remains under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal's Office, the West Hartford Police Department, and the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit.

No firefighters were injured.

The West Hartford Fire Department said UConn Health Center Fire Rescue assisted at the scene, while the Hartford Fire Department and Newington Fire Department provided townwide coverage during the incident.

Multiple American Medical Response units also responded to assist with patient care and provide firefighter rehabilitation because of the high heat index.
