West Hartford Center To Go Car-Free Sunday For Open Street Festival

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A four-block section of West Hartford Center will be turned over to bicyclists, pedestrians, skaters and other visitors Sunday for the return of the Center Streets Open-Street Festival.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will create a car-free loop through the central business district.

Hosted by Bike West Hartford, Center Streets encourages residents to bike, stroll, skate, or simply walk through streets normally used by vehicles.

The four-block loop is bordered by Farmington Avenue, South Main Street, Memorial Road Extension and LaSalle Road.

Organizers said children will be able to participate in activities including games, hula hooping, sidewalk chalk and bubbles. Live music is also planned throughout the morning.

New this year, bicyclists will be able to reach the festival using the bicycle connector from the Trout Brook Trail.

The event is open to everyone.
