Former Coach Enters Plea In Student Sexual Assault Case: Report

A former West Hartford student teacher/coach was arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student, according to police.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A former student teacher and assistant track coach at Conard High School in West Hartford has pleaded not guilty to charges that she sexually assaulted an 18-year-old student, according to the Hartford Courant.

The Courant reports Tayler Boncal, 22, entered her plea Wednesday morning and her attorney requested that selection for a jury trial begin on May 31. Boncal was arrested in February on three counts of second-degree sexual assault for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student. The arrest stemmed from an investigation that began on Jan. 12 after New Britain Police were alerted by the West Hartford school system, police said. Boncal was living in New Britain during the time of their relationship and New Britain Police obtained the arrest warrant.

Both Boncal and the 18-year-old student acknowledged the sexual relationship to police and she is being charged under a statute that prohibits sexual contact between school district employees and students within their schools, according to the Courant.
